We’ll discuss the importance of setting clear learning objectives, designing training that aligns with those goals, and assessing success through feedback and performance reviews. By leveraging assessment insights, supervisors can refine the student work experience, improve retention, and strengthen connections between student employment and career readiness. Supervisors have a unique access point to learn about challenges that their students are facing. Attendees will learn about how to recognize signs of distress in a student, how to assess their level of need, and appropriate resources to connect them to. We will discuss an overview of the Care Referral Process and highlight commonly used campus resources.

This session outlines how Indiana University’s IMU Bowling & Billiards integrates structured training and mentorship to foster leadership among student employees. It highlights the importance of a well-built training program in enhancing job satisfaction, retention, and career readiness by embedding NACE competencies at every level. The model progresses from entry-level roles focusing on hard skills to supervisors and managers receiving extensive leadership training through mentorship, structured coursework, and real-world experience. By creating a leadership pipeline and investing in both technical and professional growth, the program not only improves daily operations but also equips students with skills that carry into their future careers.

Student Wellness Fostering Personal and Community Well-being | Hoosier Room

This session will focus on cultivating a culture of shared purpose as it relates to personal health and wellbeing and the wellbeing of students you supervise. We will identify ways to center well-being in a holistic way that encompasses physical, mental, social and emotional dimensions of health. Attendees will gain skills in managing their time and stressors knowing that competing demands are always present. Wellness resources will be shared.

As the first conference hosted by the Student Employment Committee on the Bloomington campus, this event will connect people across campus to share resources and best practices in student employment. The conference is tailored especially for those who employ and supervise undergraduate student employees on the IUB campus. Breakout sessions will focus on professional development, best practices in student supervision, work-study jobs, and campus resources to support both students and supervisors. This inaugural conference is free of charge and appropriate for anyone on campus who works with our student employees!
